Police in Iganga are holding a staff of Mwana Rice Millers and the manager Safety Services Uganda Ltd a private security company, for allegedly being in unlawful possession of a firearm and Negligence respectively.
The suspects have been identified as Kisambira Sowali aka Muwanguzi innocent and Ngobi Ayub 42 both residents of Nakilulwe Zone, Magogo Parish, Nawaningi Sub County in Iganga district
On the 5th April 2026 at around 07:00pm, Mugweri Amiri Ngobi a driver and a resident of Bukalambwa Village, Nakalama Parish, Nakalama Sub county in Iganga district found unidentified person in his abandoned house in Bukobooli village, Nakalama parish in Nakalama Sub county. Upon seeing him, the unknown person at the time fled abandoning an SAR riffle No.UG PSO 3200050-05956 with 2 live ammunitions, cloths, and two smart mobile phones.
According to Busoga East Regional police spokesperson, ASP Kasadha Michael the scene was visited by a team of police officers from Nakalama police station and detectives from Iganga Central police station.
The sniffer dog was introduced to the scene, however, it lost the scent because the scene had been contaminated. The crime scene was documented, relevant statements recorded, and the gun was exhibited together with the ammunitions, cloths and the two smart mobile phones.
A serious manhunt was launched and it led the intelligence team to Kisambira Sowali through a linked chain of associates that aided in tracing him to Iganga CPS, where he was in custody on charges of stealing a bicycle.
Upon interrogation, it was established that the suspect is a born of Bukobooli village, Nakalama Parish Nakalama Sub county in Iganga. While at work, he uses the name Muwanguzi innocent, and on the charges of theft of a bicycle, he concealed and registered as Walujo Banuli.
He confirmed that he works with Mwana Rice Millers in Busei A village, Busei Parish in Nakalama Sub county. He confessed to having convinced the security guard, working with Safety Services ‘U’ LTD” to accompany him to a bar on 4th April 2026 in the evening, and that before leaving, they hid the riffle together.
However, after some time he left the guard in the bar yet to be established, went back and stole the rifle. He thereafter proceeded to an abandoned house and took cover, before fleeing and abandoning the gun upon being found by the owner of the premises. He further admitted and recognized the two phones as his by unlocking them.
Subsequently, the branch manager of safety Services ‘U’ LTD private security company, identified as Ngobi Ayub was invited to establish the safety of their rifles. However, he concealed information of having lost any gun from the company.
Further verifications were made and it was established that the yet to be identified guard was at Hill water in Mutambala ward, Iganga municipality for duty on the 4th of April 2026, but went missing and is still at large with no proper accountability from the company.
This points to laxity by the Safety Services ‘U’ LTD company on monitoring and supervision of guards and firearms. The manager was therefore detained for accountability of the missing and recovered gun, yet there are no formal reports of its loss.
Police say further inquiries are ongoing to establish how the gun reached Mwana Rice Millers and more facts.
