KAMPALA
The Kampala Metropolitan Police has arrested a bag-snatcher who interestingly has been masquerading as a Police CID Officer.
According to SP Rachael Kawala, the KMP Police Spokersperson, the suspect has been identified as Kuteeka Hassan, a 38-year-old male adult and resident of Musibula Zone, Rubaga Division, Kampala District.
She says he was found in possession of an identification card (No. CID 006) bearing a police logo for the Criminal Investigations Department, with his name inscribed on it.
His arrest is linked to a bag-snatching incident that occurred in January 2026, involving a 17-year-old victim at the Nateete traffic lights. The perpetrators were reportedly travelling in a motor vehicle, registration number UAQ 950P Golf.
On 8th April 2026 at about 4:00PM, the victim spotted the same vehicle and promptly alerted the police. Officers responded swiftly, leading to the arrest of one suspect. Upon a search, he was found in possession of the said identification card, impersonating a police officer.
A case of personation has since been registered, and investigations are ongoing.
