Former State Minister for Karamoja Affairs, Agnes Nandutu has been sentenced to four years in prison by the Anti-Corruption Court over the diversion of 2,000 iron sheets meant for vulnerable communities in Karamoja.

Nandutu was sentenced today, Friday, April 10, 2026 has also been barred from holding public office for 10 years.

The presiding Judge Hon. Lady Justice Jane Okuo, told court that prosecution proved beyond reasonable doubt that minister Nandutu knowingly received and retained government property meant for a public program.

The 4 years custodial sentence was handed despite Nandutu’s earlier pleas to the court for a lenient non-custodial sentence citing ill health, first time offender, and single mother of seven children.

The former State Minister also apologized to President Museveni saying whatever happened, she is sorry, she was misled adding that she willingly returned the iron sheets after finding out they were intended for Karamoja, and paid for those that were missing in cash.

The Anti-Corruption Court had earlier on 8th April, 2026 convicted Agnes Nandutu, over the diversion of 2,000 iron sheets meant for vulnerable communities in the Karamoja sub-region.

Court found that Nandutu knowingly received and retained government property that was not lawfully allocated to her and which she had reason to believe had been irregularly diverted from a public programme intended for vulnerable beneficiaries.
