KAMULI: Three Perish in a Fatal Accident Along Jinja-Kamuli Highway

Police in Kamuli are investigating a fatal road traffic accident that occurred in the morning of 13th April 2026, at Bufumba village along the Kamuli–Jinja Road in Kamuli District.

 

The accident involved a white Toyota Hiace taxi registration number UAY 420W and two motorcycles, registration numbers UFM 208W (Bajaj) and UFB 491J (TVS).

 

Three people have been confirmed dead following the crash namely

 

Isingoma Waiswa, 25, a rider and resident of Bukapele Zone, Kasambira Town Council.

 

Muloobo Mutebi, 55 years, a passenger and Mpiima Waiswa,29 also a passenger.

 

One victim, Isabirye Geofrey, 27, a conductor in the taxi and resident of Mafubira–Jinja, sustained injuries and is currently receiving treatment. Another unidentified motorcycle rider was also injured and rushed to an unknown health facility.

 

SSP Samson Lubega the Busoga North Police spokesperson said that preliminary investigations indicate that motorcycle UFM 208W, which was branching off from Kamuli towards Mbulamuti Road, was knocked by motorcycle UFB 491J, which was following closely behind.

 

As a result, both motorcycles and their occupants fell onto the roadway. A taxi, registration number UAY 420W, traveling from Jinja towards Kamuli, subsequently rammed into the fallen victims.

 

The driver of the taxi is currently on the run and efforts are underway to have him identified and apprehended.

 

Police responded promptly to the scene and the injured victims were rushed to Kamuli General Hospital, where three were pronounced dead.

 

Police urges all road users to exercise caution, maintain safe distances, and observe traffic regulations, especially at junctions and during overtaking, to prevent such tragic incidents.
