KAMPALA
The Minister for Local Government, Hon. Raphael Magyezi has revealed that following a cabinet meeting which sat on April 27, 2026, at State House, Entebbe, cabinet in it’s wisdom maintained the full implementation of the Trade Order across cities, municipalities and town councils in the country.
Speaking to press in Kampala today, April 28,2026, Minister Magyezi said the restoration of the Trade Order is in response to the resolution by Parliament in which the Minister of Trade Industry and Cooperatives, David Bahati announced on April 24,2026, the suspension of the Trade Order until further notice.
Minister Magyezi said after a thorough review of the parliamentary decision to suspend the implementation of the Trade Order, cabinet resolved to quash the decision arguing that in the past few weeks, the Trade Order had yielded fruits by bringing order in the business sector across cities, municipalities and town councils where it had already been implemented.
“Cabinet at its sitting held on April 27,2026, resolved that the implementation of the Trade Order continues as planned, ‘ Minister Magyezi told the media.
He revealed that the implementation will go along with with massive community sensitization to create awareness on its benefits.
He also says that a taskforce committee within the Local Government ministry has been set up to work with stakeholders to listen to complaints from the affected traders.
Magyezi reiterated the need to come up with solutions to ensure that traders without workspaces are reassigned spaces in Gazzeted markets.
“Our team is out there to ensure they work together with the private sector to ensure that all people work in Gazzeted places,” Magyezi sad.
Minister Magyezi further revealed that his Ministry has put in place mechanisms that will help in receiving concerns from the community, and urged enforcers of the Trade Order to implement it in a human way than brutalizing the affected traders.
In similar news, Minister Magyezi further revealed that cabinet has approved approximately 56 billion for the conduct of local council 1&2 elections and women council polls. He said his ministry is now waiting for the Ministry of finance to release the required funds. He, however did not specify the exact date for the conduct of the polls till his ministry receives the required funds, revealing that he has already communicated to the Electoral communication to be on standby.
