Alex Molokoye, the councillor representing Bukiabi Sub-county in Namisindwa District, a position he has held for 10 years, shocked many when he openly rejected a UGX 130 million bridge project at Khabutanyi. He said that since he lost the election, he no longer wants people in his area to benefit from his leadership.
In the 2025/2026 financial year, the district allocated UGX 35 million for the renovation of the bridge, which had been in a poor and impassable condition for five years. However, the bridge collapsed just two weeks after renovation, raising concern among residents. In the 2026/2027 budget, the district allocated UGX 130 million to construct a standard bridge to improve transport in the area.
On Wednesday afternoon, during the budget discussions, Molokoye again surprised many when he requested that the project be transferred to another area, arguing that his constituents “deserve to suffer” for voting him out.
District Speaker Dorothy Walukawu, who presided over the session, confirmed that the council approved the 2026/2027 financial year budget of UGX 47.9 billion, with key priorities in health, education, production, and infrastructure, among others. She emphasized that the political season is over and that it is now time to focus on service delivery.
Meanwhile, Bwayo Emma, the Male Youth Councillor, strongly opposed Molokoye’s proposal, stating that public service cannot be driven by personal emotions. He stressed the need for leaders to put aside differences, heal, and prioritize service delivery for the benefit of the people.
