EXCLUSIVE NEWS: Centenary Bank Uganda Appoints New Managing Director

Centenary Bank – Uganda has appointed CPA Godfrey Byekwaso as its new Managing Director, as long-serving MD, Fabian Kasi prepares to transition to Group CEO—marking one of the most significant leadership shifts in Uganda’s banking sector.

 

Byekwaso steps into the role at a defining moment, taking charge of Uganda’s second-largest bank by assets, deposits, lending, income and profitability—with a balance sheet of UGX 8.6 trillion, UGX 5.27 trillion in deposits, and over 3.4 million customers.

 

According to reliable sources, Byekwaso’s appointment has already received regulatory approval by the Bank of Uganda and is expected to take effect on 1st July, 2026.

 

The transition will also trigger a leadership search in Malawi where Byekwaso is currently the Managing Director Centenary Bank-Malawi with sources saying the process is already underway.

 

Bwekwaso’s appointment comes as part of a broader leadership realignment within Centenary Group.

 

Kasi who has served as Centenary Bank- Uganda MD since 2010 is expected to take up the role of Group CEO in which capacity he will oversee Centenary Group’s subsidiaries including operations in Malawi and Uganda and future regional expansion initiatives.
