The National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) has sent 55 officers under the Environment Protection Force (EPF) for a 4-month training at Kabalye, Masindi District.
The NEMA Executive Director, Dr. Barirega flagged off the officers today, Saturday, May 2, 2026 at NEMA House in Kampala City.
The officers will attend a specialised training to equip them with knowledge of environmental laws, practical skills in investigation, evidence handling, compliance monitoring, community engagement, discipline and professionalism.
The training is planned to cover investigation, evidence handling, compliance monitoring and community engagement; building a professional force to combat wetland degradation, deforestation, pollution and illegal resource extraction. More cohorts will follow as the Authority strengthens environmental governance.
While flagging off the officers, Dr. Barirega said that the establishment of the EPF is not meant to militarise the environment management but to professionalise the sector and cautioned the officers to observe discipline upon completion of the training.
This training marks a significant step toward building a professional, well-coordinated, and effective enforcement force.
NEMA is a Statutory Agency of government mandated by law to coordinate, monitor, regulate and supervise environment management in Uganda.
