Mbale city has today Monday, 4th May, 2026 launched a three-day investigation into the collapse of a 4-storey building under construction at Kachumbala Cell, Namakwekwe Ward, Northern City Division in the early morning of Saturday.

Speaking at a press conference on Monday at Mbale City Chambers, Mbale City Public Relations Officer, James Kutosi said an urgent, independent team has been instituted to probe the circumstances surrounding the collapse.

The investigation will determine the cause and whether there were any breaches of building standards or dereliction of duty by responsible persons.

“They should investigate to reveal negligence, misconduct or none-compliance by any party. Appropriate disciplinary, civil and criminal actions will be pursued without hesitation,” says Kutosi.

He still confirmed that the plan of the building had not been approved by the city meaning the building was illegal.

According to Kutosi, a body of one person was discovered during the search and four were seriously injured and are currently being treatment at different health facilities.

He says that after the three days of investigations, people who will be found guilty including city staff will be published and punished.
