The government recently issued guidelines on the takeover and handover of local governments, indicating that 12th May will mark the end of the current government following the swearing-in of the President.
Members of Parliament are expected to be sworn in between 13th and 15th May at Parliament. The same directive states that the swearing-in of local government leaders will take place from 13th to 29th May.
In Namisindwa, the planning team has met and resolved to hold the swearing-in ceremony on Friday, 15th May at the district headquarters.
Bwayo Emma, the Chairman-elect, said the tentative date has been set pending final confirmation from the incoming Chief Administrative Officer, Joseph Lomongin, following the transfer of Leonard Kitavunja.
Bwayo described the day as one the Lord has made and noted that the public will be invited to witness the historic event. He added that preparations are underway at lower local government levels, including sub-counties, to enable new leaders to assume office smoothly.
Isabirye Mathias, the Deputy Chief Administrative Officer of Namisindwa, said another meeting has been scheduled for Friday evening to harmonize final arrangements. He emphasized their commitment to facilitating the process and ensuring a smooth transition.
Bwayo Emma defeated the incumbent chairperson, Wakweika Jackson, in the January 29th elections.
