Six people travelling for a wedding ceremony have died and 3 others sustained injuries following a single fatal crash that occurred today, Saturday, 09/05/2026, at about 5:00am at Lumonya along the Maddu–Ssembabule Road in Gomba District.
According to the Road Safety and Traffic Police Spokesperson, SP Michael Kananura, the crash involved vehicle number UA 788DJ, a Toyota Hiace taxi which was reportedly transporting people from Ssembabule to Nakasongola for a wedding ceremony.
He says that the driver is alleged to have lost control due to speeding, causing the vehicle to overturn several times.
Four people died instantly at the scene, while two others later succumbed to their injuries at the hospital.
“We continue to urge all motorists to observe speed limits & prioritize safety on the road,” says Kananura arguing that speeding remains one of the major causes of fatal road crashes.
