MBALE CITY

Mbale City has finally officially secured the Land title for Mbale Bus Park after a long dispute with land grabbers.

This was revealed by Cassimu Namugali, the outgoing Mayor of Mbale City, on Monday, 11th May, 2026 during the handover ceremony at Mbale City Council Chambers.

According to Namugali, the city and investors attempted to develop the Bus Park during his term, but others claimed ownership of the land, despite it belonging to Mbale City.

He said they worked hard to secure a title for the bus park land, which will soon be upgraded. Namugali added that the city is processing the land title for Kumi Road Market as well and urged the incoming leadership to follow up to prevent potential land grabbing.

Assy Abirebe, Mbale City Town Clerk, praised Namugali’s leadership, saying he has been a hardworking leader.

He attributed the city’s increased local revenue, currently over 4 billion shillings, to Namugali’s good leadership and effort, adding that Mbale City will miss him.

Kakai Khariate, outgoing Deputy Mayor, urged the new leadership to prioritize repairing roads, a long-standing issue, given the increased local revenue.

She says the roads in areas annexed to the city are currently bad, yet people want to use them to transport agricultural products to the city center.

Khakimu Watenyeli, an elder and Mbale city resident, praised Namugali’s leadership, saying Mbale had a mayor who is clean and not involved in dirty deals like land grabbing and corruption.

He urged incoming leaders to emulate this as a way to develop Mbale city.

Namugali handed over the office to the Town Clerk waiting to hand the office to the incoming mayor after swearing in next week according to the Constitution of Uganda.
