BUTALEJA
The Butaleja district NRM leadership met on Sunday, 17th May, 2026 and endorsed Hon. Bashir Mugoya, district councillor for Budumba, to the position of District Speaker.
In a harmonization meeting held in Muhofa conference Hall, courtesy of the District LCV chairperson Elect-Elvis Weere, the councillors opted for Mugoya, as their NRM flag bearer, a gesture signifying unity, reconciliation and development in Butaleja district.
Elvis Weere, the incoming LCV, said that it was worth having teamwork, and urged his councillors to consolidate their support for NRM party, on Monday, May 18, when the final elections shall be held.
Moses Pabire, the District NRM chairperson, who was also the moderator of the meeting, credited the councillors and the LCV chairperson elect for having built a consensus ahead of the day of official elections, for a new Butaleja.
The councillors shall take their oaths on May 18, followed by election of the Speaker, and the deputy.
Yunus Hamila, district councillor for Nawanjofu, also incumbent Speaker, and Swaib Lugendo, councillor for Busolwe Town council had early showed their interest for the same Position on Independent tickets.
Michael Dagu, councillor for Mazimasa, Ayub Gaali, of Naweyo, and Ronald Hamya, of Butaleja town council have expressed their interests for Deputy Speakership.
