According to Bukedi South Regional Police spokesperson, IP Moses Johnson Mugwe, the raid focused on phone and bag snatchers, opium smokers and perpetrators of simple robberies operating in the area.

“The aim was to curb criminal activities, improve public safety, and dismantle criminal networks operating in the area,” Mugwe said.

Officers recovered opium, smoking paraphernalia and several items suspected to have been stolen during the operation.

The suspects detained at Busia Central Police Station under SD Ref: 72/18/05/2026 are Kidudu, Fred Wilberforce, Wepukulu Sharif, Bandari Rashid, Abudukadhiri Abdi, Apongo R and Sumba Yusufu.

Police say they are undergoing interrogation and screening.

Mugwe praised the Busia Police Commander and the team for their work in restoring order in the area.

“The team did good work in restoring sanity and ensuring the Busia community at large enjoys peace, work and development without anyone interfering with their right to own property,” he said.
