In a shocking turn of events, three family members have been arrested by authorities in Kaberamaido district, following the tragic murder of prominent local businessman, Robert Oseng.
Oseng, aged 54, was fatally attacked on Saturday, June 6th, 2026, around 8:30 PM, near his home in Okeratok A village, as he made his way back from Kaberamaido Town Council.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the assailants concealed themselves in a nearby banana plantation, utilizing the cover of darkness to launch their ambush.
Upon reaching the ambush site, Oseng was reportedly struck with an axe, causing him to topple from his bicycle. He then faced further assault with what is thought to be a sharp weapon like a panga.
Authorities discovered two severe injuries on the victim: one on the back of his head and another on his neck.
His wife, Aida Anyajo, made a grim discovery that night, finding his body lying in a pool of blood roughly 200 meters from their home after family attempts to reach him by phone were unsuccessful.
The incident was reported to the Kaberamaido central police station by the LC1 of Okeratok A village and recorded under reference SD39/06/06/2026.
According to initial findings, Oseng, also known as Sebi Apur Owite, was embroiled in a land dispute with his brothers, currently under court consideration. There are also indications that he had received previous threats against his life.
ACP Hajji Ibrahim Saiga, the regional police commander for East Kyoga, confirmed that an alarm was raised, prompting a police response with officers dispatched to the scene for investigation.
Saiga revealed that a K9 unit from Dokolo District was deployed, successfully tracking down and leading to the arrest of the three suspects, all of whom are related to the deceased.
Among those currently in custody are Stephen Edwoku and his wife Anna Ilacho, who are assisting with investigations.
“Police strongly condemn these violent acts and encourage the community to resolve conflicts, particularly those related to land, through legal channels,” emphasized Saiga.
Francis Echolu, the LC3 Chairperson of Kaberamaido sub-county, labeled the murder as heinous and called for a swift investigation to ensure that justice is served.
District councilor Emmanuel Enyenu noted that the area has witnessed similar violent occurrences in the past, citing previous murders within the village, and urged for heightened security measures.
