Police have arrested two prime suspects in the kidnap and subsequent murder of Babirye Lydia, a 52-year-old resident of Kigowa, Ntinda.
On 4th June 2026, a kidnapping case was reported at Old Kampala Police Station after the victim went missing. The suspects later contacted her relatives using her phone and demanded money for her release.
According to Luke Owoyesigyire, the KMP Deputy Spokesperson, a joint security team launched investigations and arrested several suspects, including Ssemugenyi Vincent, Nakiryowa Olivia, Kagga Shafiq, and Ntege Abubakar.
He says that through sustained investigations, detectives linked Kagga Shafiq and Ntege Abubakar to the case. Ntege was subsequently arrested in Nateete.
During interrogation, Ntege led detectives to his residence in Kiteredde Village, Kakiri Town Council, Wakiso District, where the victim’s body was recovered.
The body was found in a decomposing state inside the suspect’s house, wrapped in a mattress cover and tied with ropes. Investigators also discovered a grave that had been dug within the compound.
The scene was processed and the body conveyed to KCCA City Mortuary for postmortem examination.
Luke says Ntege Abubakar and Kagga Shafiq, remain in custody as investigations continue.
