President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has approved the acquisition of 10 new aircrafts worth Shs.3.7 trillion as Uganda Airlines plans to expand Uganda’s aviation capacity and global connectivity.
The approval took place on June 10, 2026 at Statehouse, Entebbe as President Yoweri Museveni witnessed the signing of Shs3.7 trillion aircraft acquisition agreement between Uganda Airlines and Boeing.
The purchase agreement was signed by Uganda Airlines chief executive officer Girma Wake on behalf of the national carrier, while Boeing was represented by its senior vice president for Commercial Sales and Marketing, Brad McMullen.
President Yoweri Museveni believes the fleet expansion, which includes passenger and cargo aircraft, will strengthen trade, tourism, and investment, and position Uganda as a key regional aviation hub.
A credible source told us that prior to the signing of the agreement on Wednesday, 10th June, 2026, there were a series of engagements between government officials and Boeing representatives.
The source revealed that the deal had initially been scheduled for last week but was deferred after President Museveni directed that the documents undergo further scrutiny by the responsible minister and technical teams.
Currently, the national carrier operates a fleet of two Airbus A330-800neo aircraft used for long-haul routes, and four Bombardier CRJ-900LR jets serving regional destinations.
Recently, the airline added an Airbus A320-200 under a short-term wet lease arrangement with Lithuanian firm DAT to boost capacity.
