Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the Chairman of the PLU and Chief of Defence Forces, has dropped Hon. David Kabanda as the Secretary General of Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU). The reshuffled was confirmed by Gen.Muhoozi today on June 15,2026, on his X handle account.
Gen. Kainerugaba has replaced Hon. Kabanda with Hon. Fadil Twalla, the Member of Parliament for Tingey County, as the new Secretary General.
Though at the moment , there is no official communication on the sacking of Hon. Kabanda, a close source link the move to a number of underlying factors including the recent internal pressures, online controversies, and Kabanda’s earlier public expressions of fatigue from political attacks, including reported death threats and blackmail linked to high-profile decisions such as the PLU’s withdrawal of support for former Speaker Anita Among.
Kabanda, who serves as Kasambya County Legislator, had reportedly made his X (formerly Twitter) account inactive amid intense scrutiny. Gen. Kainerugaba previously intervened and urged him not to retire and publicly defending his role.
While announcing Hon Kabanda’s successor, Gen. Kainerugaba appreciated Hon. Kabanda for “setting a high standard” during his tenure, praising his contributions to building PLU structures, grassroots mobilization, and youth engagement.
Facts About Hon.Twalla
Hon. Fadil Twalla, previously served as the league’s coordinator for the Sebei sub-region and has been actively involved in regional mobilization efforts.
In his maiden message upon being appointed as PLU Secretary General, Hon.Twalla pledged to strengthen party structures, promote unity, and meet the high expectations set by the chairman.
