Namisindwa district leaders have rejected 72 school desks supplied to Nangetsa and Busekere Primary Schools, citing poor quality and failure to meet the required standards.
Speaking during the inspection, the Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Elijah Madoi, rejected the desks, stating that they were made from substandard timber and could pose a safety risk to learners if put into use. Madoi noted that the timber used was visibly of poor quality and that, as government, they could not accept such items. He instructed the DEO to ask the contractor to fix the mess before the desks are formally received.
The LCV Chairperson, Emma Bwayo, supported the RDC’s decision, noting that each desk is estimated to cost UGX 180,000 but shockingly, what was delivered can’t cost even 30,000 each. He expressed concern that some contractors inflate project costs while delivering substandard work.
Bwayo reaffirmed that the district leadership remains committed to ensuring value for money in all government-funded projects and pledged continued monitoring to safeguard public resources.
The joint monitoring exercise of district projects commenced on Tuesday, 16th June, 2026 with visits to Mukoto Seed Secondary School, Tsekululu Seed Secondary School, and Bunasaka Primary School. The team is expected to continue the exercise throughout the week as part of ongoing efforts to assess the quality and progress of government-funded projects across the district.
