One person has been confirmed dead and others in critical condition admitted to Mbale Regional Referral Hospital after being involved in a nasty accident at Kufu Trading Centre, Manafwa Town Council, Manafwa District.
The accident happened today Friday morning, 19th June, 2026 at 9 am when a taxi, registration number UA 169BX, travelling from Lwakhakha to Mbale City lost control due to brake failure along the Lwakhakha-Manafwa Road.
According to Samuel Shitsangi, an eyewitness, the taxi was loaded with passengers. After the brakes failed, the driver jumped off and the taxi plunged under the Kufu River bridge.
He said neighbours came and broke into the taxi to remove those who were critically injured. They were taken to Mbale Main Hospital in critical condition for treatment.
