KIBOGA
Police in Kiboga have intensified operations against fuel siphoning and theft of road construction materials used on the Kampala–Kiboga–Kyankwanzi–Hoima Road.
An intelligence-led operation conducted on 17/06/2026 in Lwamata Town Council, a known black spot for such criminal acts, led to the arrest of one suspect and the impounding of several exhibits.
According to Lameck Kigozi, the PRO Wamala Region, the operation targeted hot spot areas with organized criminal networks that have been targeting fuel tankers, construction trucks, heavy machinery, and storage yards along the project route.
Criminal activities such as siphoning diesel and petrol, and theft of cement, metallic road barriers, and other construction materials have been causing delays in project completion and financial loss to government.
He says during the operation, police arrested a notorious suspect, Muyanja Wilbur, and recovered: 20 jerrycans of 20 litres each of suspected siphoned diesel, Motor vehicle truck Reg. No. UBL 030A, a TATA PRIMA, found being siphoned, 47 pieces of iron bars, 27 empty 20-litre jerrycans used for storage and transportation of siphoned fuel, 6 rubber siphoning tubes and hoses, 2 funnels and pumping accessories, 2 mobile phones believed to have been used to coordinate the criminal activities
Police say cement and iron bars are sold to local hardware shops, siphoned fuel is sold to small petrol stations, while metallic materials are sold to scrap dealers.
“The public is cautioned against engaging in such acts of economic sabotage. Those involved directly and indirectly will be dealt with decisively. Many intelligence networks are closely monitoring those involved and suspected to be aiding or abetting such acts,” Kigozi warned.
