Entebbe Fly Express Travellers Boss Under Fire Over Shs2 Billion SACCO Funds

The Chairperson of Entebbe Fly Express Travellers’ Association, Peter Kaggwa is under fire after a section of his association members accused him of mismanaging SACCO funds worth Shs.2 billion collected from taxi drivers.

The angry drivers led by former executive committee member in charge of defence, Aziz Asaba, accuse braggart Kaggwa of failing to account for SACCO funds.

They say each driver contributes around Shs10,000 per route, contributing significant revenue for the association. They claim this money has been collected for over the past 5years without giving any proper accountability.

Aziz alleges that members who ask for accountability from Kaggwa are either suspended or sacked from the association, leaving them financially depressed.

Akim Mugisha, another complainant described Kaggwa as a dictator who is unquestionable and called upon the Minister of works and Transport, Fred Byamukama, to intervene and investigate the matter.

He also alleges that Kaggwa claims to be connected to high ranking soldiers within Special Forces Command (SFC), hence creating fear among some association members.

The furious drivers claim that Kaggwa has turned the association into a company without the consent of members, something which contradicts the organisation’s original objectives.

Another disgruntled driver, Frank Tibamanya, alleges that Kaggwa offered him Shs4 million, which he rejected, claiming he was entitled to Shs12 million. On this note, Tibamanya has appealed to the Minister for Local Government, Hon. Balaam Barugahare, and the Minister of Works and Transport to intervene and restore order within the association.

Kaggwa Reacts to his accusers

In his reaction, Kaggwa played down claims that Aziz and his group were expelled from the association. He, however says they were instead sent on forced leave due to gross misconduct, which he said violated the association’s constitution.

Kaggwa has called upon dissatisfied members to formally file their complaints through the association’s offices so that issues can be handled through the appropriate channels rather than using wrong channels.

Note: Entebbe Fly Express Travellers Association was founded in 2021 under a temporary licence issued by the Ministry of Works and Transport. The association currently has got over 200 taxi drivers operating from six taxi stages located in Entebbe and Kampala.
