KOBOKO
Police in Koboko on Thursday, 25th June, 2026 arrested four officers to assist in investigating an incident of shooting that resulted in to death of a pupil and injury to another, on 24th June 2026 at around 6:30pm.
The incident was registered at police by Boboli Muhammed, 43, the Head teacher of Nuru Islamic Primary School.
The deceased is Buruga Hassan, male juvenile, aged 13 years, while the victim injured by stray bullet is Hamid Hazim.
Its alleged that, on Wednesday 24th June 2026 at around 6:30pm, Koboko District Community Liaison Officer (CLO) received a phone call from one of the community members within Koboko Municipality about the rowdy students from athletics, who were causing distractions in Koboko town, and blocking Koboko-Oraba road.
He responded with a patrol vehicle of crews on board comprising three police officers and five UPDF officers, all armed. Upon reaching at the scene, the said rowdy students started pelting stones at the officers on board and damaging the police patrol vehicle, which prompted the officers to shoot live bullets in the air to disperse the rowdy students.
Unfortunately, the stray bullets got one pupil of Nuru primary school who died on spot and injured one pupil of Nyarilo Primary School.
SSP Josephine Angucia, the West Nile Police Spokesperson says police visited, examined and documented the scene of crime, located at Gbulabulanga cell, Teremunga ward, North Division, Koboko Municipality, along Koboko-Oraba Road.
‘Inquiries established that several live bullets were shot by both Police and UPDF officers who were on board and the stray bullets got one pupil of Nuru primary school dead and injured one of Nyarilo on the leg.’ Said SSP Angucia.
It was further established that the officers were responding to disperse rowdy students from athletics who had blocked the road and were causing damage and attacking other road users.
SSP Angucia also said that different forensic exhibits were recovered including three guns, live ammunition, cartridges, blood samples and clothes of the deceased.
Four of the suspects who are police officers were charged and detained, meanwhile the five suspects who are UPDF officers are yet to be identified and charged.
The case file will be submitted to the Resident State Attorney for perusal and legal advice.
