In a significant push to strengthen women’s participation in Uganda’s political landscape, the National Resistance Movement (NRM) National Treasurer, Hon. Amb. Barbara Nekesa Oundo, and the party’s Director of Mobilisation, Dr. Rosemary Nansubuga Seninde, jointly led a high-level strategic meeting aimed at preparing women leaders for the forthcoming elections.
The meeting, convened on Wednesday, 1st July 2026 at the NRM party headquarters on Plot 10, Kyadondo Road in Kampala, brought together aspiring and current women leaders from across the country.
Discussions focused on building leadership capacity, enhancing campaign strategies, understanding electoral processes, and addressing challenges unique to women in politics.

Hon. Amb. Barbara Nekesa Oundo, who chaired the session alongside Dr. Seninde, emphasized the party’s commitment to gender equality and inclusive leadership. “Women are the backbone of our communities and our movement,” she reportedly told participants. “This meeting is about equipping them with the tools, knowledge, and confidence they need to contest and win positions at all levels.”
Dr. Rosemary Nansubuga Seninde, renowned for her extensive experience in grassroots mobilization, highlighted the importance of strategic preparation. She urged participants to focus on issue-based campaigns, community engagement, and leveraging digital platforms to reach wider audiences.
Key topics on the agenda included, electoral laws and nomination procedures, effective resource mobilization for campaigns, public speaking and media engagement skills, building strong support networks within the party and constituencies and addressing barriers such as cultural stereotypes and financial constraints.
The strategic meeting is part of the NRM’s broader initiative to increase women’s representation in leadership positions ahead of the elections. Party officials noted that empowering female leaders remains central to the NRM’s vision of inclusive governance and national development.
Participants left the session energized and better prepared, with many expressing gratitude for the targeted support from the party’s top leadership. Several women leaders described the engagement as “transformative” and “a game-changer” for their political aspirations.
This initiative underscores the NRM’s ongoing efforts to foster a new generation of competent and confident women politicians ready to contribute meaningfully to Uganda’s future. Further capacity-building workshops are expected to follow in the coming months.
