Fourteen people have been confirmed dead and 28 others injured following a fatal road traffic crash at Bobi Trading Centre, Bobi Sub County in Omoro district along the Kampala–Gulu Highway.

According to Michael Kananura, the traffic Police spokesperson, the accident occurred on July 7, 2026, at around 9:34pm. It involved motor vehicle UBE 110H, an Isuzu bus belonging to OPIT Travellers Company, and motor vehicle KBS 564D/ZE 7948, a Mercedes-Benz Actros trailer.

He says preliminary reports indicate that the bus driver, who was allegedly speeding, attempted to avoid a pedestrian crossing the road, lost control, and collided head-on with the oncoming trailer.

The injured victims were rushed to various medical facilities for treatment, police said.

“We urge all motorists to strictly observe speed limits, especially at night when visibility is reduced. Drivers are also reminded to remain vigilant, anticipate pedestrian movement in trading centres, and always drive at speeds that allow them to stop safely,” Kananura said.
