The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Local Government, Ben Kumumanya has recalled the Jinja District Local Government Chief Administration Officer to headquarters pending a State House Anti-Corruption Unit led investigation.
In a letter dated 9th July, 2026 Kumumanya instructs Ms Lillian Nakamatte to immediately hand-over office to pave way for investigations against her by the State House Anti-Corruption Unit.
The recall, commonly known in local lingua as ‘kateebe’ follows an engagement the Minister for Local Government, Dr. Balaam Baruhagara held with the district leaders on 8th July, 2026.
During the engagement with local leaders, a number of allegations were raised against Nakamatte prompting the Minister to order for her suspension.
The directive was issued during a special sitting of the Jinja District Council at the district headquarters, where speaker Simon Kibombo tabled a memorandum accusing Lillian Nakamatte of abetting corruption and failing to implement council resolutions.
Among the issues raised was the continued allocation of Shs 15 million for repairs to an old district coaster, despite the council having resolved to dispose of the vehicle.
According to Kibombo, the repair budget has appeared in the district’s budget for the past three financial years without the approval of the council.
“As you are aware, a meeting was convened yesterday by the honorable minister for local government in Jinja district and a number of issues were raised against. Accordingly, it was decided that you be recalled to headquarters,” reads the letter in part.
