BUSIA
Police in Busia District are hunting for a private security officer who allegedly shot and seriously injured his colleague during a night attack in Tiira Town Council.
The incident occurred on the night of 8th July, 2026 at Tiira B Cell, along Salama Road, about 200 meters from Tiira Town, Busia District.
The victim has been identified as Sam Masaba, a male Private Security Officer attached to Legends Security Limited and a resident of Tiira B Cell. He is currently receiving treatment at Busia Health Center IV.
The suspect is Joseph, also a male Private Security Officer with Legends Security Limited and a resident of the same area who is still on the run.
According to Bukedi South Regional police Spokesperson, Moses Johnson Mugwe, information about the shooting was received on Thursday morning by Tiira Sub-County Police Station from Isaac Mwonge, another security officer with Legends Security Limited.
Officers from Tiira Police Station rushed to the scene and later reported the matter to CPS Busia for further management.
Preliminary investigations show there was a pool of blood along the road and exhibits recovered include; One black jacket stained with blood, One cartridge casing, Blood samples retrieved from the crime scene, and One SAR rifle with three live rounds belonging to Legends Security Limited.
The rifle was recovered abandoned inside the suspect’s room at his premises.
Police also established that the two colleagues had a misunderstanding during daytime over an unknown reason. The suspect was reportedly heard threatening to shoot the victim.
After the shooting, the suspect fled the scene and abandoned the firearm in his room.
Mugwe condemned the act and urged the public to resolve disputes through proper channels.
“We discourage people from taking the law into their own hands whenever they have differences. Instead, report to the relevant authorities for assistance, rather than taking the law into your own hands,” he said.
