Police have arrested a man who has routinely masqueraded as a woman to secure domestic work purposely to steal from his employers.
According to the KMP Police Spokesperson, SP Rachael Kawala, Rayan Kayaga, who allegedly posed as Namirembe Rukia while seeking employment as a domestic worker was eventually arrested over alleged theft of cash worth Shs.1.7 million from his employer.
Afande Kawala told the media on Monday, 13th July, 2026 that preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect disguised as a female in order to secure employment.
Kawala adds that upon interrogation, the suspect revealed that he has been disguising himself as a female domestic worker with the intention of stealing from employers.
Kawaala disclosed that the suspect was most recently employed at a residence in Mutundwe, Rubaga Division, Kampala District, where he allegedly stolen Shs. 1.7 million from his employers.
The suspect was arrested at a church in Mutundwe after security personnel conducted a routine security screening before the start of a church service.
“Following his arrest, the employers reportedly discovered that UGX 1.7 million was missing from their residence and immediately reported the matter to the police,” she said.
Kawala noted that the suspect remains in police custody as investigations continue.
“He will be arraigned in court upon completion of the inquiries” she said.
Kawala further challenged members of the public to exercise due diligence when recruiting domestic workers and other household employees.
“Whenever possible, verify the identity, background, and references of prospective employees, and promptly report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station,” Afande Kawala appealed.
