Shock gripped residents of Temanakali village Bukomero Sub County Kiboga District on Tuesday 14th July after Nanyonjo Priscilla 15, a student in Senior 3 at Bukomero Secondary school drowned herself in the neighbor’s dam.
SSP Lameck Kigozi, the police spokesperson for Wamala Region said events leading to this incident began at 6:00am on Tuesday when the mother asked her daughter whether she was not going to school.
The girl in a bad mood responded that she had washed her uniform and moved out of sight of her mother in protest and out of the house.
“She crossed the road to the side of their neighbor identified as Kinalwa John who stays in Kampala and has a dam. The mother quickly followed her but only found her abandoned shoes on the shore of the dam. The girl had already jumped into the dam.” Said SSP Kigozi
The mother made an alarm which attracted people including the village chairman who in turn reported to police.
By press time the body of the deceased had been retrieved from the dam, a postmortem examination was done at the scene and body was handed over to relatives as investigations into this matter continue.
Police appealed to people with dams and other forms of water reservoirs to secure them from members of the public because of the danger they pose if not properly secured.
