The Ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban Development has issued an interim directive stopping LCI Chairpersons who are currently campaigning to retain their positions from involvement in any land transaction.
The public notice dated 16th July, 2026 headlined, “Temporary suspension of LCI involvement in land transactions during the election period,” is meant to safeguard the integrity of land transactions during this transition period.
Accordingly, the affected LCI Chairpersons should not participate in witnessing, endorsing, recommending or overseeing any land related transaction until the electoral process is concluded.
Members of the public are therefore advised to avoid relying on campaigning LC1 Chairpersons for matters relating to purchase or sale of land, witnessing or endorsing land transactions, boundary related matters, land ownership verification or any other land transaction requiring local administrative involvement.
The Ministry urges those who are urgently in need of land related services during this election period to use services of qualified legal practitioners.
“This precaution will help prevent costly mistakes and safeguard the interests of all parties,” reads the statement in part.
