Man, Murders Brother over Land Dispute in Namutumba

Police in Namutumba District are hunting for a 68-year-old man in connection with the alleged murder of his brother.

 

The suspect has been identified as Nalugoda George, resident of Namuwondo ‘A’ Village, Ituba Parish, Namutumba Sub- County, Namutumba District while the deceased is Kakaire Patrick George, 78, brother to the suspect and resident of the same village.

 

It is alleged that on Saturday 1st August 2026 at approximately 06:00pm, at Namuwondo A Village, the suspect was served a police summons to appear at Namutumba Police Station on Monday the 3rd August 2026, to record a statement regarding allegations of malicious damage to property and criminal trespass made against him by the deceased.

 

However, according to residents who spoke to this publication, upon receiving the summons from the Vice Chairperson of the area, the suspect allegedly attacked the deceased from his home, tore the summons before assaulting his brother.

 

Kakaire fell from the seat and lost consciousness, and the suspect fled the scene. The neighbours moved the victim inside his house, where he was pronounced dead.

 

According to Busoga East Police spokesperson ASP Kasadha Michael, a postmortem examination was conducted at Iganga Hospital and the body was released to relatives for burial.

 

ASP Kasadha said that preliminary investigations indicate that the incident stems from a land dispute between the deceased and the suspect, over land inherited from their late father, Yosamu Nalugoda.

 

The Police call upon members of the public with any information regarding the whereabouts of the suspect to report to the nearest Police Station.
