MBALE CITY
Police in Mbale City have arrested one suspect and launched a manhunt for two others following a burglary at Bright Parents Junior School in Industrial Division.
According to the Elgon Region Police spokesperson, Rogers Taitika, the burglary occurred at around 2:00 a.m. on August 3, 2026, when three men allegedly broke into the school’s kitchen and stole several saucepans and metallic poles belonging to the school.
Taitika identified the arrested suspect as Aduket John Richard, a resident of Asenya Village in Kumi District. He was apprehended while attempting to flee from the scene, while his two accomplices escaped and remain at large.
Police suspect that Aduket could be linked to a larger criminal group that has been carrying out burglary and theft cases in Mbale City.
“The suspect is currently in custody at Mbale Industrial Division Police Station pending further investigations and charges of burglary and theft,” Taitika said in a police statement.
He added that detectives have launched a manhunt to track down the two remaining suspects and recover any stolen property.
Police have appealed to members of the public to cooperate with the investigation by providing any information that could lead to the arrest of the fugitives.
“We urge anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of the remaining suspects to report to the nearest police station,” Taitika said.
