Police Arrests Sino Truck Driver Driving Under Influence of Alcohol in Mpigi

Police has arrested a Sino truck driver who was driving under the influence of alcohol and without a valid driving licence.

 

According to Traffic Police Spokesperson, SP Michael Kananura, Oponya Martin who was driving Sino truck number UA 367AM, was arrested after he failed to stop when directed by traffic police in Mpigi on Sunday night at about 8:00PM.

 

Kananura says police pursued the errant driver and upon interception and further checks, he was found to be driving under the influence of alcohol and without a valid driving licence.

 

He is currently detained at Maya Police station pending court proceedings.

 

Kananura adds that the owner of the truck has also been charged with permitting a person without a valid driving licence to drive the vehicle.

 

“We reiterate our commitment to enforcing traffic laws and taking firm action against motorists whose conduct puts the lives of other road users at risk,” says Kananura in a statement issued on Monday, 10th August, 2026.
