Namisindwa District has dismissed all volunteers at government health facilities following State House directives.
The sacking is contained in a letter dated 14th August, 2026 and written by Joseph Lomongin, the Namisindwa Chief Administrative Officer to all in-charges of health facilities. It states: “It has come to our attention that health facilities have over 100 volunteers. This must be stopped immediately.”
He added that the deployment of those volunteers at government facilities was contrary to the Ministry of Health policy and should therefore be stopped.
Similarly, the Namisindwa LCV Chairperson, Emma Bwayo echoed the same while speaking to hundreds of Christians at St. John Magale Catholic Parish on Saturday, during the thanksgiving of Rev. Fr. Derick Kundu, who was recently ordained.
Bwayo said the district, together with the State House monitoring team, inspected all government health facilities last week and discovered that most health workers report on duty only once every two months.
He said health workers are among government employees who earn handsome salaries, even though some other cadres have higher education levels.
Bwayo said the health workers had decided to stay at home and leave volunteers to do their work, adding that the district will not allow that. He cautioned health workers against absconding from duty.
“When they were seeking these jobs, they came pledging, and some even offered bribes. But after getting them, they misuse them, not knowing that other qualified people are there praying to get that chance,” Bwayo said.
