THE Chief of Defence Forces, General Kainerugaba Muhoozi has disagreed with Local Government Minister, Balaam Baruhagara over restricting opening hours for bars.
Last month, Minister Baruhagara issued directives to the effect that bars should not open before 3:00PM on working days adding that Ugandans were free to start drinking at whatever time over the weekends.
However, in a brief tweet on Monday, 31st August, 2026, General Muhoozi ordered otherwise, saying opening and closing hours for bars and clubs is up to the proprietors.
“Opening and closing hours for bars and clubs is up to the proprietors. What we will not tolerate is any form of fighting and violence. Otherwise, Ugandans are entitled to enjoy themselves,” Muhoozi says in his tweet.
In response, Minister Baruhagara, took to his X-Handle appreciating the order saying, “Order taken Chairman with utmost respect.”
