MOROTO
The 3 Infantry Division of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) has initiated a refresher course aimed at enhancing the military skills of the recently graduated soldiers from Intake 05.
This program, held at the Division Headquarters in Moroto, is designed to prepare these soldiers for deployment in an operational setting.
The participants of this course are among the recruits who completed their training on July 9, 2026, at the Olilim Basic Military Training School, and they are from various units within the 3 Infantry Division.
During the ceremony marking the course’s start, Brigadier General Michael Walaka Hyeroba, the new Division Commander, emphasized the significance of this refresher course as a vital aspect of professional development within the UPDF.
He urged the trainees to embody the values of the UPDF, safeguard the reputation of the force, and stay connected to their motivations for enlisting.
“You are part of an organization governed by rules and regulations, and it’s essential to understand your role within the UPDF,” he stated.
Brig Gen Walaka further encouraged the soldiers to approach their training with enthusiasm and to take it seriously, highlighting its importance in preparing them for the realities of military operations.
Colonel Santurino Mashereka Tumuranzye, the Division Operations and Training Officer, reinforced the concept of ongoing training to address the challenges of a changing operational landscape.
“Effective training enhances military capability and fortifies security partnerships,” Colonel Mashereka remarked.
The ceremony saw the presence of several dignitaries including Colonel Winston Mugarura, the Deputy Division Commander, brigade commanders, the Division Administration Officer, department heads, and both senior and junior officers.
