The High Court of Uganda has set September 14, 2026 as the commencement date for the hearing and handling of election petitions arising from the 2026 General Elections.

In an Administrative Circular No. 5 of 2026, dated September 2, 2026, the Principal Judge directed all judges designated to handle election petitions to report to the respective High Court circuits and Civil Divisions where they have been temporarily posted.

According to the circular, the hearing and handling of the election petitions will run from Monday, September 14, to Friday, November 13, 2026.

The designated judges have been instructed to proceed to their respective stations and commence the exercise within the scheduled period.

The development is expected to pave the way for the judicial determination of disputes arising from the recently concluded general elections, as petitioners and respondents prepare to have their cases heard before the High Court.

The election petition process will determine whether the results and electoral processes in the affected constituencies and electoral areas complied with the law.
