IGANGA
On Friday 4th September 2026, Iganga Chief Magistrate’s Court remanded five individuals to Iganga Government Prison on accusations for fraudulent acquisition of public land.
The accused are Mr. Kawanguzi Hamidu, the LCIII Chairperson of Nakalama Sub-County, Mr. Wakabi Deo, the Senior Assistant Secretary of Nakalama Sub-County, and three other accomplices.
It is alleged that the suspects fraudulently procured a land title covering approximately 4.45 acres of land that belongs to Nakalama Sub-County Headquarters and subsequently attempted to sell it.
They have been remanded until 15th September, 2026 when they will reappear in court.
In a related development, two more public officials have been arrested to assist with ongoing investigations.
ASP Kasadha Micheal, the Busoga East police Spokesperson said the suspects are Ibanda Henry the Iganga District Physical Planner, in connection with the alleged illegal titling and attempted sale of the said public land and Kyagaba Julius the Iganga Municipal Council Registrar, in connection with the alleged theft of land agreements and documents belonging to Iganga Municipal Council.
The Police, in coordination with the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) and the Ministry of Lands, has embarked on carrying out comprehensive investigations to establish the full extent of the fraud, recover all relevant documents, and ensure all persons involved are brought to justice.
Police strongly condemn acts of corruption and abuse of office involving public resources, particularly public land meant for service delivery.
It called upon any member of the public with information regarding similar cases of public land grabbing in the region to share it with the nearest police station or through its confidential channels.
