Police has arrested three people found in possession of suspected stolen cattle carcasses in Muti Cell, Maluku Ward, Industrial City Division.
The incident occurred on September 3, 2026, at around 4:00 a.m. The suspects have been identified as Othieno Patrick, 55, a businessman from Busia, Simbowe Godrick, 34, a boda boda rider from Northern Division, and Nandutu Irene, 32, a housewife and resident of Muti Cell.
According to Rogers Taitika, the Elgon region police spokesperson, officers at Industrial Division Police Station received a call from the Officer in Charge, ASP Maswele Christopher, to respond to an incident at Maluku Adra. Officers booked out under SD Ref 03/03/09/2026 and proceeded to the area.
He says at the scene, they found a maroon Toyota RAV4, registration number UAJ 354G, loaded with animal carcasses suspected to be stolen. Part of the meat had already been offloaded into a nearby room belonging to one Kutosi Peter, the husband of suspect, Nandutu Irene, who had escaped earlier.
Police said the suspects had first been intercepted by Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) operatives on duty at around 4:00 a.m.
The Scene of Crime Officer, in the presence of other personnel led by D/IP Cherotich Konyi Alfred, visited and documented the scene.
The recovered carcasses, said to be of two heads of cattle, a bull and a cow, brown and white in colour were packed in sacks and are currently kept at Industrial Division Police Station as exhibits. The vehicle has also been impounded at the station.
Taitika said the prime suspect, Kutosi Peter, a resident of Muti Cell, is still at large.
Inquiries are ongoing to identify the owners of the cattle and to arrest the prime suspect. A statement is also expected to be obtained from a URA operative identified as Emma. Any new developments will be communicated, police said.
