Bulambuli District leaders have today, Wednesday, 16th September, 2026 launched the rehabilitation of the 5KM Bunambutye-Girigi road.

This road connects Bunambutye Sub-county headquarters to the Bunambutye-Girigi River bordering Karamoja, then to the Bunambutye government disaster resettlement area.

While speaking to residents during the launch, Simon Peter Wanazofu, the LCV Chairperson of Bulambuli, said they are going to use part of the 1 billion shillings for road maintenance which the district got in the 2026/27 financial year.

He said they want to make the area reachable since it has been inaccessible due to the poor state of roads in the area.

Wanazofu added that this road is going to enable accessibility to the Bunambutye government disaster resettlement camp area, which will enable people to access the area quickly.

Sarah Wekomba Nambozo, the Bulambuli District Woman Member of Parliament, urged people in the area to use the road for production by transporting agricultural products to Bulambuli Town Council and Mbale City markets.

She said the area is known for growing cotton, maize, soya beans, among other crops, but transport has been very difficult due to the impassable road.

Nambozo urged the community to embrace the project and urged the engineer to use the local community in terms of labor so that they can benefit directly and indirectly.

The Woman Member of Parliament urged the engineer to do quality work worth 200 million shillings, otherwise the law will catch up with him.

Emmanuel Biara the area legislator representing Bulambuli County, said that during his campaign, he promised to work with district leaders to rehabilitate roads in the area since most of them have been impassable.

He urged residents to embrace the project, saying that other roads in the constituency are going to be worked on as well so that the area can be accessible.

Charles Madoi, the Acting District Engineer, said the works are going to take one and a half months and the whole project will cost 200 million shillings.

He said they are going to carry out works like bush clearing, putting murram, trenches, culverts, among others on the road, urging the community to embrace the project and work together to ensure that quality work is done.

Sam Wanzala and Amina Wanda, both residents from the area, expressed their happiness with the road rehabilitation, saying they have been suffering to transport expectant mothers to Muyembe Health Center IV and transporting their agricultural products to market areas like Bulambuli Town Council and Mbale Town.
