Police have arrested three suspects in connection with the kidnapping of two children from Bujowali Zone in Njeru Municipality, Buikwe District, and recovered a firearm allegedly used in criminal activities.
The suspects were arrested on Thursday 17th September 2026 by a joint team of police and sister security agencies following investigations into the children’s abduction.
ACP Kituuma Rusoke said the suspects are Odongo Richard, Derick Nkuruziza, and Kasaija Dan, who is alleged to be the overall commander of the group and was responsible for receiving the ransom money in Kampala.

The case was reported on Sept. 7 after two armed and masked men allegedly attacked the home of Mr. Mugabanya at about 7 p.m. The children were reportedly watching television under the care of domestic workers while their guardian was away.
According to police, the attackers injured the domestic workers when they raised an alarm, confined them in a bedroom and fled with two of the children. The kidnappers later allegedly demanded a ransom of Shs100 million.
Police said the abduction prompted joint security agencies to launch investigations and track the suspects. The children were recovered on Wednesday in Malindi Village in Wakisi Sub- County, Buikwe District, and are safe.
The suspects are also being investigated over alleged involvement in previous kidnappings, including the abduction of a female school director in Njeru Municipality in May 2026.
