Police and the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) have sealed off the Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom headquarters in Hoima City following intelligence that a group of youth was planning to storm the premises.

By 9am on Monday, 21st September, 2026, heavily armed security personnel had surrounded the Kingdom headquarters, restricting access to the Rukurato, or Kingdom chambers. Officers were also deployed at the palace, while others patrolled parts of Hoima City.

Julius Hakiza, the Albertine Region Police spokesperson, said the deployment was a routine security operation intended to maintain public order.

“We received intelligence indicating that a group of youth were planning to storm the headquarters to cause chaos,” Hakiza said in a telephone interview.

He said the joint deployment by police and the military was intended to prevent any potential unrest and urged members of the public not to participate in acts that could disrupt peace.

Hakiza called for calm, warning that security forces would take appropriate action against anyone found disrupting public order.

The deployment comes amid heightened attention around activities at the Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom, although police did not provide further details about the group allegedly planning to storm the headquarters.
