Police in Budaka District are investigating a murder case after human remains were recovered from a sand mining site in Budaka Town Council.
The incident was reported on Thursday, 24th September, 2026 vide BUDAKA CRB 469/2026 by Itakali Wilber, 59, the LC1 Chairperson of Naigumya Cell, Budaka Town Council.
According to Wilfred Kyempasa, the Bukedi North region police spokesperson, the remains were discovered at about 3:00 p.m at Mukungu Benefasi’s sand mining area in Naigumya Cell, Budaka District. He says human remains (a head) of a yet to be identified woman were recovered including pants and sandals.
He adds that the scene of crime was visited by D/AIP, Watsala Willy, the entire Homicide team, SOCO D/AIP Kwiri, a canine team from Mbale City and uniformed personnel. The detached head was transported to Budaka Health Centre IV for postmortem examination.
Kyempasa says furthermore, after leaving the scene, information was received through the same LC1 Chairperson that about 150 metres away from where the head was recovered, there was another body buried in the same sand mining area.
The Homicide team led by D/AIP Watsala Willy, SOCO and uniformed personnel responded to the scene and recovered the body of a yet to be identified male juvenile with a detached head. The remains were also transported to Budaka Health Centre IV for postmortem. Police say inquiries are underway to identify the two bodies, establish the culprits, motive, and to recover the headless bodies.
