Butaleja district Local Government has received Mr. Adam Mayemu Mumeya, as new District Education Officer (D.E.O), IN a temporary arrangement ahead of official recruitment.
Mayemu, a seasoned teacher and Administrator, received the instruments of power from the Chief Administrative Officer Mike Yoga, on Friday, 25th September, 2026.
The CAO expressed confidence in Mayemu, arguing that he has for long administered the Education department in Butaleja district and has the requisite experience.
“After our thorough scrutiny, we have identified Mr. Mayemu Mumeya Adam to head Education department in Butaleja temporarily. Work with him for development”, Yoga said.
Yoga, also urged teachers and parents to embrace Mumeya, for better results in schools.
On his part, Mumeya said that his assignment shall run for Six Months but renewable. He promised teamwork with the school Inspectors, teachers, other officers and parents for better services. He, however, said that he will concurrently serve in the offices of D.E.O and at Bukedi College Kachonga.
Mayemu, emerges as the 5th Education Officer for Butaleja, within seven years since the retirement of Phillip Kalyebi, a substantive Education Officer.
Mumeya, replaces Ms. Sumaya Mwima, the Education Officer who was netted in Local Government Minister Balaam Barugahara’s operations, now suffering interdiction and investigation over allegations of corruption.
In another development, Yoga, said that they have begun their journey to solve the problems of understaffing at Butaleja district schools, by assessing the wages that they were given recently by the relevant Ministry.
His statement follows numerous cries over understaffing at different schools in Butaleja district. After the visitation of Balaam Barugahara to Butaleja, with the tough condition he unleashed against illegal fees charges; a number of locally appointed teachers lost assignments yet the Government Aided schools’ enrolment has shot up.
