The Ministry of Works and Transport in conjunction with MTN Momo have today, Saturday, September 26, 2026 launched a cashless payment system dubbed” Go Cashless ku Expressway” to enhance toll services at the three toll stations of Busega, Kajjansi and Mpala along Kampala-Entebbe Expressway.
The digital payment system enables motorists to make payment within a few seconds hence promoting efficiency and improved revenue collection.
Eng. Isaac Wani who represented the Acting Engineer in Chief at the Ministry of works and Transport, revealed that the digital payment system will operate on lanes 4 and 5 at three toll plazas in Busega, Kajjansi and Mpala adding that the remaining tolls will also go on digital payment effective 2027.
While launching the digital toll payment at Kajjansi Toll plaza in Kajjansi Town Council, Eng Wani, noted that the digital platform enables motorists to pay money using even other telecom providers. He, however advised motorists to drive with caution as they observe other road users.
Eng. Isaac Menya, the contractor for Kampala-Entebbe Expressway, described the digital payment system as a great milestone saying it would enhance safe and reliable travel along Kampala-Entebbe Expressway.
The Accounts Manager at the Finance Ministry, Brian Rukuya, pledged that his ministry is willing to work with MTN Momo to champion the digital payment system at Kampala-Entebbe Expressway toll plazas.
The Chief product officer for MTN Momo, Jemimah Karioki, strongly believes that the introduction of digital toll payments shows how digital financial services can simplify every day experiences beyond traditional mobile transactions.
The Project manager Kampala-Entebbe Expressway, Eng. Joan Alinda announced that effective 2027, they will implement an electronic automated payment for the lanes on the three toll plazas on the Expressway.
