A 25-year-old woman has died in a suspected suicide incident in Nyanza North Village, Mugiti Sub-county, Budaka District.
The deceased has been identified as Nakhumitsa Mary, a Mugisu by tribe and a housewife to Muyinda Siraji. The incident occurred on the night of 5th October 2026 at about 10:00 PM.
Wilfred Kyempasa, the Bukedi North region police spokesperson says the deceased was discovered dead hanging in the washroom inside the main house by the housemaid. At the time of the incident, her husband was reportedly in Kampala.
He says police have opened a case of suicide at Mugiti Police Station under CRB 93/2026 and that the scene of crime was visited by a homicide team led by D/AIP Watsala, D/Sgt Naikesa (SOCO), and uniformed personnel.
Kyempasa says the body was transported to Mbale City Mortuary for postmortem. However, the father and husband of the deceased opted not to have a postmortem examination done. Instead, they requested in writing to be allowed to go and bury the deceased, upon jointly agreeing that she committed suicide.
He says the reason why she committed suicide has not yet been established.
