NAMISINDWA

MediConnect Health Solutions, a Uganda-focused telemedicine initiative, has been launched in Namisindwa District in partnership with the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) under the Uganda Communications Universal Service and Access Fund (UCUSAF), as part of its fourth strategic cycle.

The initiative aims to improve access to healthcare through technology by connecting patients with healthcare professionals. It’s services include online medical consultations, appointment booking, pharmacy services, ambulance access and emergency support.

Speaking at the launch on Monday, 12th October, 2026, Michael Kayola, the team leader, said the application helps users locate online pharmacies and access free online consultations on a pro bono basis. He added that the initiative is intended to benefit anyone with a smartphone, making healthcare services more accessible through digital technology.

Immaculate Amanya, Head of Partnerships at UCC, who participated in the innovation awards where MediConnect received a prize, pledged her support towards the growth of the project. She emphasised the broader objective of improving access to communication and information technology, particularly in promoting value addition.

Bwayo Emma, the LC5 Chairperson, who presided over the launch as the chief guest, applauded the founders of MediConnect Health Solutions for their innovation. However, he urged the public to use the internet productively to create economic opportunities rather than fuel conflict and violence.

He also called on the Uganda Communications Commission to intensify public sensitisation and promote innovation, stressing the need to ensure that everyone is included in the digital transformation agenda.
