Police in Namisindwa District are hunting for a woman suspected of murdering her husband by stabbing on Friday, 9th October, 2026 in Sitira Village, Soono Parish, Bukokho Sub-county.

The deceased has been identified as Makoona Enoch, 28, a peasant and resident of Sitira Village. The incident was reported by Mr. Sikuku Samuel, the LC1 Chairperson of Sitira Village.

SP Rogers Taitika, the Elgon region police spokesperson told our reporter on Monday, 12th October that it is alleged that on the fateful day, at around 7:00 PM, the deceased was at Sitira Trading Centre when his wife, Nandutu Shamim, now the prime suspect, picked him to go home. On 11th October 2026 at about 7:30 AM, the body of the deceased was discovered by his brother, who notified police.

He says police responded, visited the scene and conveyed the body to Mbale City Mortuary for post-mortem examination. Preliminary post-mortem findings indicate death was due to internal bleeding from a deep stab wound that punctured the heart.

Preliminary findings indicate the body was not found at the primary scene, and that domestic misunderstandings, including allegations that the deceased intended to marry another wife, could have triggered the incident. Clothes suspected to belong to the suspect were recovered from a pit latrine and have been exhibited.

By the time of filing this story, the suspect was still at large, and police are actively hunting for her. Police have called upon the public with any information on her whereabouts to report to the nearest Police Station.

“We appeal to members of the public to always seek peaceful means of resolving domestic misunderstandings and to report domestic violence early to the police or local leaders,” Taitika said in a press statement.
