Soroti University Management has closed its newly commissioned Shs1.2bn gate to both pedestrian and vehicular traffic after it developed defects.
According to a communication by the Deputy Estates Manager dated 14th October, 2026, the gate has developed defects, “involving the debonding and falling of granite/stone cladding from the gate arch.”
Consequently all staff, students, visitors and other road users have been advised to use the previous access route during this period until all the remedial works are done and ascertained.

Soroti University unveiled this long-anticipated main gate, featuring cutting-edge design and functionality, with a total investment of sh1.2 billion on Friday September 25th, 2026.
Key features of the gate include a 60-meter wall fence, a security house complete with a detention room, the installation of 13 CCTV surveillance cameras, solar power systems, mechanical installations, monitoring screens, computers, walkways, gate control facilities, and provisions for persons with disabilities.
The project was executed by the National Housing and Construction Company Limited (NHCC), commencing on September 28, 2025, and concluding on May 15, 2026.
During the commissioning University officials reported that the contractor had received approximately sh1.1 billion, representing 88.3% of the total contract sum, with the remaining 12% to be paid upon the rectification of identified defects.
