BUGWERI
The traffic Police in Bugweri are investigating a fatal hit-and-run crash that occurred on Thursday 15th October 2026 at about 06:30pm in Idudi Town council along Iganga – Bugiri Highway.
The crash involved an unknown motorcycle carrying two persons and an unknown motor vehicle.
It is alleged that the motorcycle, which was moving from Idudi Town direction, slid and fell after riding over cooking oil that had spilt on the road. The spillage was reportedly caused by persons who had illegally opened a moving trailer carrying cooking oil.
While the rider and passenger were on the ground, an unknown motor vehicle that was moving in the same direction ran over the female passenger, killing her on spot. The driver of the motor vehicle did not stop.
Busoga East Regional Police spokesperson ASP Kasadha Micheal said the deceased has been identified as Baagala Aidah, 48 years, resident of Namatanga Village, Bugiri District and by the time of filing the story her body has been conveyed to Bugiri Hospital Mortuary for postmortem examination.
The motorcycle rider, believed to be the son of the deceased, is yet to be traced. Efforts to identify and trace the hit-and-run motor vehicle are ongoing.
Police have strongly warned members of the public against the dangerous act of siphoning fuel and oil from moving trucks, as it not only endangers their lives but also causes oil spillage that makes the road slippery and leads to fatal crashes.
